Callie: “My First College Lesson”

As my move-in day slowly crept up on me, I felt stress meander its way into my life. I found myself packing, then unpacking, while making list after list ––forgetting certain things were not an option. Being an out-of-state student, I tried to avoid forgetfulness by constantly worrying about what I needed to bring to campus; if I had prepared for everything. Then, once I got on-campus, I would be ready for anything. Arriving on-campus simultaneously sent feelings of excitement and nervousness. Add those emotions together and, as you can imagine, I felt all over the place.

The second I got settled, I found myself running up and down Bascom Hill  to do activity after activity. After the reality of move-in finally knocked on my door, I decided to walk inside my residence hall. I sat down, took a breathe, and learned my first college life lesson; time management is everything. The first week will be all about getting out and meeting people, but don’t forget to set time aside for yourself. Don’t let yourself get overwhelmed, and be sure to stay on top of your game. Things are changing. Responsibility is the name of the game, and you’re the player.
